1946 -

Italy
PERSONAL DETAILS
Full Name: Fabio Capello
Date of Birth: Tuesday, 18th June 1946
Place of Birth: Pieris, Italy
Position: Midfield/Manager

Following a relatively successful career as a player in Italy, Fabio Capello has built a reputation as one of the finest coaches in the modern game. During his playing career, Capello played as a midfielder for several of Italy's top clubs and was an international more than thirty time, before going on to manage three of his former clubs.

Starting out with S.P.A.L. in 1964, he stayed at the club until 1967 before moving on to AS Roma, where he spent another three seasons. Moving on to Juventus in 1970, Capello was a part of the team that won three Serie A titles in four seasons and became an international for the first time in 1972, playing three times in the World Cup finals two years later.

Capello left Juventus in 1976 to join AC Milan, where he stayed for four years before ending his playing career in 1980, having won his fourth league title in 1979. His coaching career started with Milan's youth team, and following a short period as caretaker manager in the 1980s he became manager full time in 1991. Milan won the league and cup double in 1991-92, and over the next two seasons completed a hat-trick of Serie A titles. In 1994, the third of those successes was completed alongside a sensational performance in the 1994 European Cup final, where Capello's team destroyed Barcelona 4-0.

After a fourth Serie A title with Milan in 1996, Capello left to join Real Madrid, where he won the Spanish League Championship in his only season, before returning again to Milan for a third spell in charge. In 1999, after a year out of the game, he joined another of his former clubs as manager when he took charge of AS Roma, leading them to the fifth Serie A title of his coaching career in 2001.

In 2004 Capello stepped down from his job with Roma to join Juventus as coach, claiming the Serie A title in his first two seasons, but the club were stripped of these honours following a match-fixing scandal and Capello resigned, returning to Real Madrid in 2006. Despite leading Real to their first league title in four years with a late run of form, he was sacked after just one season and a few months later moved into international management for the first time with England.
